What is a dayhome?
A dayhome is one of the options available to Alberta families. Within a dayhome, a professional childcare provider offers programs for up to six children within a private residence. Families choosing this childcare solution want a home-like environment that ensures individual attention for their child combined with the positive aspects of larger centres such as socialization and group activities.
Parents/guardians drop off their child for an agreed period of time during the day at a private residence. Your child’s caregiver lives in the home with her family. Your child will play and interact with the other children in their small dayhome group, be given meals, participate in activities, and are supervised by one of our certified Dayhome Directors.
ABC Dayhomes holds a municipal license from the City of Calgary. Under the Early Learning and Child Care Act, dayhomes and childcare services for 6 or fewer children are not individually licensed by the province. Children’s Services has developed the Family Day Home Standards Manual for Alberta which determines the roles, objectives, responsibilities and expectations for family dayhome programs. This guide provides recommendations and best practices for home-based childcare providers in Alberta which ABC Dayhomes follows.
