Finding the right childcare solution for your family is challenging. There is much to consider including location, price, wait lists, and environment. You will want to find somewhere safe and nurturing that aligns with and supports your parenting philosophies. We’ve put together a list of the most common questions to help you with your decision.

A dayhome is one of the childcare options available to Alberta families. Within a dayhome, a professional childcare provider offers programs for up to six children within a private residence. Families choosing this childcare solution want a home-like environment that ensures individual attention for their child combined with the positive aspects of larger centres such as socialization and group activities.

ABC Dayhomes is open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 5:00pm. Extended hours are offered, subject to availability, for families who need an earlier drop off or later pick up. 7:00-7:30am and/or 5:00-5:30pm. Fees apply. Contact us to discuss. We are closed on statutory holidays.

Our directors accommodate a maximum of six children in each residence. Ratios are maintained in accordance with the provincial government’s Family Day Home Standards Manual for Alberta. Children graduate through our programs during their time with us to ensure compliance with these requirements.

We provide fresh, healthy, home cooked, and kid-friendly meals depending on your child’s schedule: breakfast, lunch and two snacks. Dietary requirements can be accommodated.

ABC Dayhomes operates with a municipal license from the City of Calgary. Under the Early Learning and Child Care Act, dayhomes and childcare services for 6 or fewer children are not individually licensed by the province. Children’s Services provides a guide with recommendations and best practices for home-based childcare providers in Alberta which ABC Dayhomes follows.

ABC Dayhomes is guided by the Family Day Home Standards Manual for Alberta developed by the Alberta Government. We provide administrative and supervisory support to directors and dayhomes throughout the network, however, we are not a provincially licensed dayhome agency. In accordance with current legislation, private dayhomes are not eligible to offer families the subsidy.

Dayhome directors are certified in CPR and have First Aid training. All directors and staff must have a valid police clearance and a proven track record of working with children. Adult family members of dayhome directors are also subject to background checks including vulnerable sector.

ABC Dayhomes supports the safeguarding of children, families, caregivers and the community from the spread of infectious diseases such as the common cold, influenza, COVID-19, and others. We follow Alberta Health Services Health and Safety Childcare Guidelines and the government’s applicable documentation Guidance for Day Care/Out of School Care (Child Care). Registered clients have access to our comprehensive health policy.
