Bright, Clean Facilities
ABC Dayhomes are bright and welcoming with large, secure, outdoor spaces where children can play, explore and be creative. All programs take place on the main floors of residences. Basement play areas are used for supervised indoor recreation in inclement weather.
Play-Based Programs
Children learn well when they are engaged, social and making meaningful mental connections; characteristics of purposeful play. Our approach focuses on creativity, curiosity and discovery. Directors identify interests of their group and create opportunities for them to explore these through creative art, music and movement, and imaginary play.
Enrichment
Our curriculum includes a variety of enrichment programs to enhance your child’s dayhome experience and support their development. These include child yoga sessions to strengthen mind and body, an appreciation of the natural world through outdoor activities, photography, guest speakers, and community building events such as the annual picnic.
Wellbeing
Within our care your child develops skills that promote their physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth. Although crucial for overall health, wellbeing may be scaled back or not considered in some early childcare environments. ABC Dayhomes creates programming that prioritizes whole-child development and includes practices such as stretching and breathing exercises, “kiddie” journaling, understanding and expressing feelings, and meditation. Resilience is one of the most important qualities to develop in children. The ability to learn from mistakes and not give up easily will help maintain positive wellbeing.

Child Safety
Dayhome directors are First Aid and CPR certified. All adults who are in contact with children in our care are subject to police screening. Child-proofing measures are taken inside and outdoors.
Security
There is an emergency evacuation plan and regular drills, a fire extinguisher on site, and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors throughout each property. Dayhome addresses are never publicized. We do not display signage, nor do we indicate locations online.
Policies & Procedures
ABC Dayhomes documents policies and procedures as part of our program plan in accordance with the Family Day Home Standards Manual for Alberta, Early Learning and Child Care Act, and Alberta Regulation (February 2021).
Health
Ensuring children in our care remain safe includes stringent health protocols. ABC Dayhomes has a comprehensive health policy which outlines the guidelines and protocols we implement to keep children, directors, and families healthy and safe.
Movement
Movement is vital to a child’s holistic development supporting their balance, coordination, flexibility and strength. Our curriculum includes a robust physical activities component. Fine and gross motor skills are developed, often through music.
Nutrition
ABC Dayhomes provides nutritious, home-cooked, kid friendly meals and snacks. We accommodate dietary requirements upon request. Directors support good eating habits with a wholesome and varied menu, and encourage table etiquette.
